Galangal is a tropical perennial mountain ginger, a plant resource used for both food and medicine. Perennial herb, 30 to 80 cm tall. The rhizome is cylindrical, transverse, brownish red or purplish red, with nodes, annular membranous scales at the nodes, and roots at the nodes.
