Bergenin is sourced from bergenia purpurascens which is growing in Sichuan Liangshan mountain area. Bergenin can be isolated from Bergenia species like Bergenia ciliata and Bergenia ligulata,from rhizomes of Bergenia stracheyi. It is also found in the stem bark of Dryobalanops aromatica, in Ardisia elliptica and in Mallotus japonicus.Bergenin is white loose needle crystal or crystalline powder; No smell, taste bitter; Fade in light or heat. Dissolved in methanol and slightly soluble in water or ethanol.
